Super Market Trip & Food for thought!

Food For Thought 🤔 & Super Market Trip!

Hey Bloggers,
Today I'm going to talk about our lessons for Food For Thought. Food for thought is a programme that teaches students what to eat like healthy food and unhealthy food. Last week a girl named Isabelle came to our school to teach us what to eat on a daily basis and what to eat sometimes. We also learned about how much sugar, fibre, calcium, energy and fat is in breakfast cereals. We learned that Weet-bix is the healthiest breakfast and Nutrigrain is actually one of the highest breakfast cereal in sugar.

The other lesson we learnt about how much sugar is in sodas. Isabelle told us that for children we can only have 5 teaspoons of sugar a day, 5 teaspoons is the max. Then we had to get in groups and sort out the sodas by the sugar rate. Water doesn't have sugar so we put it first in the line. The last soda we put in our line was Monster! We thought it had a lot of sugar in it. Then Isabelle told us what order the sodas actually go in! The last soda with the most sugar was....It was a the lime soda and it had 23 spoons of sugar in it.

Then the next week on Wednesday, Waitemata, Hauraki and Maunkua went to New World, A supermarket in Mt Roskill. We each went in classes, Our teachers gave us each a paper with different actives to do on it. When we went to New World we met Isabelle there. We got into groups and went in the supermarket. On the paper the different actives were to find a healthy breakfast cereal and a sometimes breakfast cereal and we did the same with dariy products, muesli bars, breads and snacks. On the other side of the paper you had to go to the vegetables and fruits section and list the fruits and vegetables in colour.

Here are some photos from the day we went to the supermarket!
